Hello! Holiday, Thank God I have a day off! That’s what most of us say, everybody looks forward to a holiday right, well most of us do anyway. Ok what do I do with the garbage? Is the question.

Lets get this clear DSNY does not pick up garbage on holidays or Sunday EXCEPT: When a storm or other natural or man made problem occurs like a hurricane/snow storm creates a backlog that is almost impossible to catch up with unless they have to go into the Holiday or even a Sunday, this is avoided almost at all cost because of the money that has to be paid for such an operation.

In the Winter months this situation gets either one of two types of attention, DSNY will either go 2 (12hour) shifts or stay with the 3 shifts already installed in November (Night Plow). Discision is done after considering man power/equipment needed and weather. In the Summer hours(April to October) its most likely the men/women get assign to the 3 skeleton crews that are already assigned after Night Plow.

DSNY has improved notifying the public with social media with almost everything you need to know when it comes down to changing protocol in picking up your waste and snow problems.

Some things to keep in mind on a holiday.

No Service means no service, only baskets will be picked up (not all), but most of them will be picked up, at least the ones by commercial area should be.

Special events that go thru the cleaning office also gets attention on a holiday.

Recycling will be suspended until the following week, that is if your recycling day falls on the holiday, DON’T put out until the following week, if you have two holidays on two consecutive weeks, put out on the second holiday for pick up the next day(12midnight). NOTE: If its a blizzard or some natural disaster is occurring during the holiday please check with DSNY on their social sites for more information.
